- The work of NCSC is founded on ten years of research in the field of alternate assessment based on alternate achievement standards (AA-AAS). NCSC partners have committed to a research to practice approach in the development of the alternate assessment and high quality resources that support educators and parents in teaching and learning. As part of the professional development focus of the project, a series of presentations and learning modules has been developed to guide educators, parents, and other interested audiences through an exploration of curriculum resources, instructional techniques, and topics related to successful learning and college, career, and community readiness for students with significant cognitive disabilities.

Professional Development and Parent Modules (University of Kentucky)
- A series of professional development and parent modules developed by the University of Kentucky covers a breadth of topics for educators, administrators and parents. Each of these modules includes goals for learning, an exploration of the content, opportunities to assess your learning, and ideas for expanding your understanding of the targeted and related concepts. Modules have been grouped by topic and can be accessed via the links below.

Obtaining Badges for Module Completion
- Each of the modules included in the courses above is eligible for a badge. When you complete the module, you are given access to a final slide that contains the link to the badge for that module. Before you can begin collecting your badges, you must set up an account for your badges. Badges can be collected and shared, and posted to other sites. Click on the following link to see instructions for setting up your free account for collecting badges.
NCSC Resources for Parents (and for others interested in summaries of our project)
- The NCSC Partners website includes links to a wealth of resources. The resources for parents offer descriptions, summaries and explanations of work that is directly related to the NCSC project. This work encompasses the development of the NCSC summative assessment, the Curriculum and Instructional Resources (found here in the wiki), Alternate Assessment information, IEP Team Guidance for Alternate Assessment Participation Decisions, College, Career, & Community Readiness for Students with Significant Cognitive Disabilities, Communicative Competence, and tools for sharing information about NCSC's work.
MASSI and LASSI Presentations (University of North Carolina)
- The University of North Carolina Charlotte has developed a series of presentations on the Math and English Language Arts Activities with Scripted Systematic Instruction (MASSIs and LASSIs). The MASSIs and LASSIs provide step-by-step written guidance on how to teach the prioritized Common Core State Standards. The MASSI and LASSI presentations include videos of students participating in instruction, as well as examples of lesson planning for systematic instruction and monitoring student progress. It is important to note that MASSIs and LASSIs can be used in a general education setting to focus instruction on specific skills. Access the webinars via the links below.
